Terracotta Roof Restoration in Eltham
Heavy lichen had spread across this Eltham terracotta roof and into the profiled watercourses, while sections of the ridge bedding and pointing also required attention.
Lichen was holding in the tile watercourses and the ridge work needed attention, while the natural terracotta finish could be retained. Cleaning and repairs were chosen without a colour coating.

What we completed for this roof.
The roof was cleaned, lichen was removed and the tile watercourses were cleared. Ridge sections were re-bedded where necessary and repointed, retaining the natural terracotta finish.

Inspect the lichen and ridge condition
The terracotta tiles, watercourses, ridge caps, bedding and pointing were assessed to identify blocked drainage paths and unstable ridge sections.

Remove lichen and clear watercourses
The roof was thoroughly cleaned to remove lichen and accumulated organic material, reopening the profiled channels that carry rainwater down the tiles.
- 03
Re-bed and repoint where necessary
Failed ridge sections were re-bedded where required, then the ridge and hip capping was repointed to complete the restoration without painting the terracotta tiles.
